Thermally Broken Doors
Pinky’s Iron Doors is one of the very few iron door companies that is capable of incorporating the breakthrough technology known as the thermal break technology. This technology is a game changer in our industry and we are very happy to offer it to our customers. Thermal break technology extends throughout the door, jamb, and window protecting the inside of the door from temperatures outside. The inside and outside surfaces of the iron door are thermally separated resulting in exceptional improvement in insulation.
How does this work?
Increased amount of labor and attention to detail is put towards cutting the entire door in half (two equal pieces). A very high insulated thermal barrier is put between the two parts of the door. This results in efficiently breaking the flow of heat/cold from one side of the iron door to the other to help protect the door from extreme weather conditions. The overall thickness of the door becomes 1/8” thicker from the barrier that is added in the door.
Do you really need a thermal broken door?
Not all customers need a thermal broken door and you can save on the additional, unnecessary costs that go along with it. Our non thermal broken doors are well insulated with 5/8” tempered dual pane glass, polyurethane foam, weatherstripping, bottom sweep, and built in threshold.
Severe or extreme cold are vague terms to use, which is mainly due to the fact that there are many factors or key elements that play a crucial role when determining if a thermal break iron door is necessary or not. During sustained periods of extreme cold weather, typically well below the freezing point of 25 degrees, is a good starting point to begin looking further into whether a thermal break door is required to avoid condensation on the interior of the iron door.
